About WHOIS Lookup
What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is a protocol used to query databases that store information about registered domain names and IP addresses. A WHOIS lookup reveals who owns a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, the registrar used, nameservers, and contact information (when not protected by privacy services).
Why We Built This Tool
WHOIS lookups are essential for verifying domain ownership, checking domain availability, investigating phishing and spam sources, performing due diligence before acquiring a domain, and monitoring your own domain registration status. This tool provides instant WHOIS data without needing command-line tools or visiting multiple registrar websites.
How to Use It
Enter a domain name (e.g., example.com) or IP address and click Lookup. The tool queries WHOIS servers and returns registration details including registrant information, registration and expiration dates, nameservers, and registrar details. Toggle between Basic and Full info views for different levels of detail.
Key WHOIS Fields
Registrar: the company where the domain was registered. Registration Date: when the domain was first registered. Expiration Date: when the domain needs to be renewed. Nameservers: the DNS servers authoritative for the domain. Status codes: indicate if the domain is active, locked, or pending transfer.
Privacy & Security
Many domain registrants use WHOIS privacy services (also called domain privacy or proxy registration) to hide personal contact information from public WHOIS records. This is recommended to prevent spam, social engineering, and identity theft. GDPR regulations have also led to many registrars redacting personal data from WHOIS results for domains registered in the EU.
